Rise with Purpose: Embrace Your Hero’s Journey 🌟

Did you ever consider you are the hero of your story. If you have, how deeply did you consider it?

Come with me on a short journey. You’re having a main character moment… constantly! Understanding your journey and where you are in it can transform the way you lead, plan, and live.

As a professional speaker, I’ve seen how understanding the Hero’s Journey inspires leaders, event planners, and teams to Rise With Purpose (RWP). While Joseph Campbell’s classic Hero’s Journey has 17 steps, I’ve simplified it into five easy-to-remember acts—perfect for HR professionals, CEOs, and anyone creating impactful experiences for others.

Let’s dive in! 🌌

The Five Acts of the Hero’s Journey:

🏡 Act 1: Your Life Before

This is where it all begins. Life may be moving along predictably, like a warm spring day. It’s your foundation—a time to refresh, ground yourself, and reflect on the essential question: “Who am I?”

For HR pros and event planners, think of this as your team’s baseline. Before big initiatives or transformations, take a moment to assess where you’re at. Build trust. Set the stage.

✨ Act 2: The Pivotal Event

Life shifts. It could be a major project launch, a new hire, an organizational shake-up, or a personal change like health, a relationship change, teenagers! These moments, whether sudden or gradual, force us to pivot. You’re in survival mode—assessing, adapting, and forging new paths.

Good leaders will recognize the change and step into the chaos, even if they don't want to. It's important to be aware of this moment. The more grounding you do in Act 1, the better you'll respond in Act 2!

🎮 Act 3: The Battle

There are many stories where the hero doesn’t rise up to face their challenges, but this is not that kind of story and you are not that kind of hero. You do face it. Just like heroes of old (or new) you will figure this s***t out.  Remember: you are not alone. Luke Skywalker had friends like Han and Leia, and mentors like Obi-Wan and Yoda. Frodo had Sam and Gandalf. Barbie… well, she had more Barbies and Ken (he got around to it!). 🌈

In your story, who are your allies and mentors? Your team? Your friends? Whose your mentor? Lean on them. There are no lone hero's. Our history has proven that we cannot make it unless we work together. Collaboration is the secret weapon of every hero (and every thriving workplace).

🏆 Act 4: The Big Win

You did it! You’ve conquered the challenge. Maybe it’s the successful launch of a new initiative, a big promotion, or an event that leaves everyone buzzing. What victory has happened in your personal life? Take a moment to celebrate. Express gratitude to those who supported you. Dance in your living room… or the office. 🎉

For HR and event planners, this is a great time to recognize achievements publicly. Celebration builds culture, boosts morale, and fosters connection.

🌱 Act 5: The New You

The excitement has mellowed, but the joy and lessons remain. You’ve grown. You’re no longer the person you were in Act 1. Reflect on your transformation and consider how you can mentor others.

For CEOs and leaders, this is where legacy begins. Share your insights. Inspire others to rise with purpose and step into their own hero’s journey.

Navigating Multiple Acts at Once

Life isn’t linear, and neither is leadership. You might be celebrating a big win (Act 4) while navigating a sudden challenge (Act 2). Emotions can stack and even contradict each other. The key is awareness.

Ask yourself:

  1. “Who am I?”

  2. “Where am I in my story?”

Once you know where you stand (and it might be in several places at once), you can take purposeful action—whether it’s seeking help, celebrating, or reflecting.

Why This Matters 🌟

Here’s the science-backed truth: when you see yourself as the hero of your story, you’re healthier mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. You have more hope, and you’re more likely to seek help when needed.

For HR professionals and event planners, incorporating this framework into your work can inspire teams to embrace challenges, grow together, and celebrate victories. For CEOs, it’s a tool to lead with purpose and empower others to do the same.

So… are you ready to rise? Go be the hero of your story… and help others become the hero of theirs! 🚀
